What Street Theatre Performers Bring to Events

Street theatre helps bring an ordinary space to life, whether that be through offering a world class show in an area your guests aren’t expecting it, or animating a large area with one of our roaming walkabout acts.

Street theatre comes in many forms, such as:

  • Impromptu shows in an unexpected area, whether that be the garden or the literal street.
  • Larger than life walkabout characters or stilt walkers, animating a large area of an event or greeting your guests in a creative way.
  • Static ambient acts or installations that help bring an area to life.

Why Bristol Events Suit Street Theatre and Walkabout Entertainment

Bristol has one of the strongest outdoor event and festival cultures in the UK, from harbourside festivals and Christmas markets to council-run community events and private celebrations across the city’s parks and venues. That makes it a natural home for the kind of roaming, interactive entertainment we specialise in.

Street theatre and walkabout acts work particularly well for:

  • Festivals and outdoor events across Bristol’s parks, harbourside and city centre spaces
  • Corporate events and shopping centre activations looking to create a memorable moment for visitors
  • Christmas markets and seasonal events, where our Living Christmas Trees and Santa’s Sleigh are a natural fit
  • Private parties and weddings across Bristol and the surrounding areas

Our Approach to Creating Memorable Event Performances

Being based in the South West means we’re never far from Bristol, and we’re used to working within the city’s specific logistics, whether that’s access for load-in at a busy harbourside venue, working around a packed festival schedule, or coordinating with council event teams on public space bookings.

With every booking you’ll be talking with an expert not only on events in general, but on the specific act you’re interested in and how it works within a Bristol setting.

Street Theatre Performers - What Others are Saying

How Street Theatre Performers Work at Your Event

We appreciate that you may never have booked a street theatre act before, and might have no idea what to expect. Here you can find a brief run down of how the day of the event will work when you hire one of our street theatre acts.

1) Street Theatre Performer Arrival

We’ll agree on an arrival time in advance of your event. Generally speaking this is one to three hours prior to the act’s agreed upon start time. If you require an earlier arrival for whatever reason, this can generally be accomodated.

Generally our street theatre artists will give you  (or a designated individual) a call as they arrive, and ask to be shown to their changing area. The requirements for a changing area vary by walkabout act, but details can be found on individual act pages.

The performers will then unload the act into the dressing area and, if neccessary, move the vehicle to suitable parking.

2) The performers prep the act

The performers will do an inspection of the costumes to ensure everything is ready for their first street theatre set, as well as for any safety issues. Generally they will also inspect the performance area to ensure there are no safety concerns surrounding their performance.

We’ll begin getting in to costume between 15 and 30 minutes before our first performance to ensure we are ready in plenty of time.

3) The street theatre performance

The fun bit! Generally we will have agreed upon performance or set times prior to the event, though if you wish to tweak it on the day we can generally accomodate this within reason.

We welcome you to ask questions or make suggestions to the performers if something isn’t quite right. We want you to enjoy the performance as much as we do and make your event the best we can.

4) Packdown and goodbyes

Once all performances have been completed, our performers will pack down their equipment and coordinate with your event staff to ensure everything is safely and efficiently cleared away.

We pride ourselves on leaving every event as smoothly as we arrived – and where possible, we’ll always make sure to wave goodbye!

Megabeast Productions are based across the South West, from Cornwall and Bristol, to London and beyond. So wherever you’re planning your event, we’re never too far away.
